Albania took over the presidency of the Energy Community

Albania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Baluku, participated in the 20th meeting of the Ministers of the Energy Community which was held in Vienna Austria and at the end of the meeting took over the presidency of the community.

According to Baluku several important decisions were made at this ministerial meeting for the regional energy market, energy efficiency and renewable energy targets.

At the meeting the Council of Ministers of the Energy Community adopted the goals until 2030 to reduce the consumption of primary and final energy accelerate the exploitation of renewable resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

The ministers also discussed coordination measures to ensure energy supplies and deal with the impact of rising prices.

EU Commissioner Kadri Simson noted the great progress on the decarbonisation programme.

At the end of the meeting Ukraine officially handed over the chairmanship of the Energy Community to Albania, represented by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Baluku.
