The Karavasta solar project is slated for completion by the end of 2023 and is expected to produce approximately 265GWh of electricity annually. Voltalia is tasked with the project’s development, construction, and operation, with funding from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The project will adopt a power purchase agreement revenue model.

Fifty percent of the generated electricity will be sold through a 15-year contract to the Albanian public operator, while the remaining portion will be marketed via long-term agreements to private operators.

Gonzalo de la Viña, President of EMEA at Trina Solar, stated, “Our engagement in the Karavasta Solar project marks a significant milestone for Trina Solar as we broaden our presence in the rapidly growing Balkan region. This not only stands as the largest project in the area but also follows another major endeavor in Albania, where we introduced our Vanguard 1P single-row tracker.”

This initiative emerged from Albania’s inaugural competitive auction for solar power, following the launch of the EBRD Renewable Energy Auctions Programme in the country.
