Large-scale investigation by the Bulgarian GDBOP and DANS under the supervision of the European Prosecutor’s in several Thermal plants

The investigation of the Bulgarian services and the European Prosecutor’s Office into alleged abuses in the trading of harmful emissions continues. It is assumed that European funds have been damaged by millions of euros.

BTV reports on a large-scale action by the Bulgarian GDBOP and DANS under the supervision of the European Prosecutor’s Office in 10 cities. The checks are in Sofia, Sofia region, Pernik, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Ruse and Kyustendil, Haskovo, Stara Zagora and Burgas.

Actions have been reported at multiple addresses, including at the coal plants associated with the businessman Hristo Kovacki – TPP “Bobov dol”, TPP “Brickel” and TPP “Maritsa 3”, as well as the heating companies of Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Burgas, Pernik , Gabrovo and Sliven.

The European Prosecutor’s Office announced that more than 40 searches and inspections were carried out in Bulgaria.

Private companies in the country are being investigated. It is suspected that since 2017 they have been submitting false data and reporting lower amounts of harmful emissions. More than 150 policemen, GDBOP and DANS employees participated in the inspections. 70 witnesses were questioned.
