Unit 6 of the Kozloduy NPP will be shut down for repairs

On April 15, 2023, the Sixth Unit of the Bulgaria Kozloduy NPP will be shut down for the planned preventive activities related to indications of coolant leakage. The period of the shutdown is consistent with the availability of sufficient electricity in the country’s energy system at this time of the year. This was announced by the Kozloduy NPP.

The data set during the continuous monitoring of the systems and facilities of the unit for a leak from the first to the second circuit in the third steam generator do not exceed the norms for safe operation. The limits stipulated in the technological regulation have not been reached and there has been no change in the radiation situation in the working premises and on the Kozloduy NPP site.

Although the operation of the nuclear power can continue, a conservative decision has been taken to shut down the unit and carry out preventive and repair measures in order to ensure the necessary high safety and operational reliability of the nuclear power plant.

After completion of the planned activities, the sixth unit will be included in the energy system of the country. Unit Five is operating according to the production schedule.
