EU to provide 250 mln euro to Moldova

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced a financial package of 250 million euros to support Moldova during her official visit to the country, the Associated Press informed.

The President of the EC stated that Moldova, which borders Ukraine, will receive 100 million euros from the European Union in the form of grants (grants) and loans of the same amount from January 1 to secure the necessary supplies of natural gas through this winter. An additional 50 million euros will be allocated to help the most needy citizens of the country, added Ursula von der Leyen.

Russia has halved natural gas supplies to Moldova in recent weeks, triggering an unprecedented energy crisis in the country on the brink of winter.
