Malfunction in the sixth unit of the Kozloduy NPP, Bulgaria

During the operation of the sixth unit of the “Kozloduy” Bulgarian NPP, indications of leakage of coolant from the first to the second circuit in the third steam generator were registered, the nuclear power plant announced.

Values exceeding the safety limits in the technological regulation of the unit were not reached. The unit will be stopped when operating limits are reached to remove the bypass.

The headquarters specify that the amount of the pass is subject to continuous control, and at the moment its value is several times lower than the existing restrictions.

There is no change in the radiation situation in the working premises and on the site of the Kozloduy NPP. The activities to remove the leak will not lead to a change in the radiation situation on the territory of the nuclear power plant.

On October 30, the sixth unit of the Kozloduy NPP had to be disconnected from the country’s energy system due to a technical problem in the generator’s cooling system. The planned annual renovation of the block was completed the day before. Acting Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov visited the plant and stated that the problem was technical and did not affect the radiation background over the country. On November 5, the block was turned on again.
