United States grants Moldova $220 million for energy sector investment projects

The United States of America has committed to providing a substantial grant of 220 million dollars to the Republic of Moldova. This grant is intended to support the implementation of vital investment projects in the energy sector. The draft law, which ratifies the 15th Amendment of the Assistance Agreement, has successfully passed its first reading in the Moldovan Parliament, as per the report by Radiomoldova.

As a result of this agreement, the non-reimbursable assistance from the US Government will amount to more than 392 million dollars, as an additional 220 million dollars is earmarked for Moldova.

Moreover, the Agreement sets forth the conditions for the United States Government to extend approximately 77 million dollars in budgetary support through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). In return, the Moldovan Executive has committed to aligning the country with the Energy Agenda of the European Union and making continued progress in harmonizing Moldova’s legal framework with the EU Acquis.
