Romgaz and Sokar to sign a new contract for the supply of Azeri natural gas to Romania

The National Natural Gas Company Romgaz and Sokar a subsidiary of the National Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan will sign the first individual contract for the supply of Azerbaijani natural gas to Romania on Friday. It will be for a period of one year and will come into force on April 1, reports Agerpress.

The Southern Gas Corridor, as well as the future submarine cable for the transmission of electricity produced in Azerbaijan from renewable sources – projects supported by the European Commission will contribute significantly to guaranteeing the energy security of the European Union

said Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, who is on a visit to Baku at the invitation of his Azerbaijani colleague. He recalled that Azerbaijan was the first country in the South Caucasus region to raise its relations with Romania to the level of a strategic partnership in 2009.

The biggest part of our trade is oil, we need to diversify these volumes, take the first steps. The Sokar company has many oil operations. Last month, an agreement on the supply of Azeri gas to Romania was signed in Bucharest. We will turn to other markets and use all these opportunities for even greater gas exports.

He added that Baku and Constanta are two important ports and the cooperation between them should be improved. 

On Friday, Klaus Iohannis will open together with his Azerbaijani counterpart the Ministerial Meeting of the Consultative Council for the Southern Gas Corridor. The European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson will also participate in it.
