Gas interconnector Serbia-Bulgaria will be ready by the next winter

The director of “Serbiagaz” Dusan Bayatovic said today work on the construction of the Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnector should be completed by September 2023, Serbian media reports.

At the moment more 50 percent of pipes have been purchased and about 90 percent of the route has been cleared. About 25 percent of the pipes have been welded and laying should begin soon. The expropriation has been completed successfully, Bayatovic told Serbian national broadcaster RTS.

According to him, there will be no problem with the completion of the Serbian route from Nis-Dimitrovgrad. Bulgarian side will make the first welding by February 1. Bayatovic expects the interconnector which will connect the Serbia and Bulgaria gas networks will provide an opportunity for diversification.

Previously Serbia announced plans  to build a gas connection with North Macedonia which will be important for the diversification of sources of gas supply. Work on the construction of the Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnector should be completed by September 2023.
